Boundaries

What is the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear the word ‘boundaries’? Is it a barrier? A gate? Something that blocks you or something that protects you?

When I hear ‘boundaries’, I think ‘pushing them’.

Too Big a Bite? recently turned 1 year old. Not a ripe age in a blog’s life, but enough to look back and take stock. Well, blogging is hard work. When I started this ‘little’ endeavour it wasn’t about success, but rather exploring an unknown territory, fighting my way through self-imposed blockades to unleash a long forgotten creative potential.

For boundaries are not so much about the limitations themselves, but whether you accept and live with limitations, rather than pushing them. Stepping out of my comfort zone is what inspired this blog in the first place and had me going for a year. As part of this personal boundary-bashing I’m now actively seeking new ways to challenge myself and refine my skills. Getting absorbed in creative writing is only one of those ways.

And what greater writing challenge is there than the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)? Write a 50,000-word novel in one month, socialise with and get support from fellow writers in a stressful yet fun, ‘seat-of-your-pants’ exercise. Take that, lazy self! Am I enthusiastic enough? Definitely. Am I determined enough? We’ll see. Let me get back to you on that on December 1st.

This post is in response to The Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries.
What are your boundaries? Do you accept them or rather work through them?
